Spinks Holds On To Decision Karmazin

In his first major bout at the Savvis Center in St. Louis, Missouri, Cory Spinks (34-3, 11KOs) was stopped by Zab Judah in nine rounds to lose his welterweight crown. After 17 long months away from the ring, he redeemed himself in the same hometown venue with a close majority decision over Roman Karmazin (34-2, 21KOs) to win the IBF junior middleweight title.

Spinks danced his way to the ring with rap sensation Yung Juk, and danced his way back to the dressing room with a new title in his second weight division.

The fight started off quickly for Spinks as he used his jab to control the fight for most of the first five rounds and bruise both eyes of Karmazin. As the sixth round began, it appeared that Karmazin began to figure Spinks out and used his strength advantage to come forward and land big punches to the head and body.

Spinks was still able to use his superior speed and movement to win a few of the late rounds, but his constant movement in the fight had left him tired in the final quarter of the fight. Karmazin would begin to rally back in the ninth round and to most observers swept the final four remaining rounds of the fight, but it was too late as he gave away too many early rounds. [details]

He doesn't have the power to hold off guys like Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Fernando Vargas. He's just naming these guys to get his name back out there. He would get his ass handed to him to bejesus and back IMHO.

I give him a good chance against any of those guys you mentioned. Spinks needs to work on his stamina problem, if he fixes that, then he will be a tough fight for anyone that he's faster.

I think Spinks will have problem against the fast boxers like Zab or PBF.

Look at it this way, Pauli the Pizza man is faster then Cotto but b/c he was so feather fisted he couldn't hold Cotto back. Spinks may be faster than the guys he metioned he wanted to fight but I think they would just walk through any punch he throws. But you never know, Spinks could just get on his bike and run away the entire fight and win a UD but for me, I wouldn't put any money on Spkins if he fights these guys. I do give credit to his boxing ability though, just to make things clear I'm not a Spinks hater. I do doubt any of the guys he mentioned are going to accept a fight with Spinks, he's no draw.

I hope Spinks isn't scared to give Ouma another shot at the title like Karmazin was.

If spinks have the balls to try his luck then why not? BUT I can assure you that he'll be slowed down by Marg much much earllier and he can't hang on that long for a decission.

I had the fight 115-113 for Spinks. I don't think it was as much a case of Spinks making a big comeback as it was Karmazin just not being active enough to win it. I agree with you that if Spinks fights the way he fought Karmazin saturday, he can't come close in the ring with a De La Hoya, Mosley, etc. He's still got alot of work to do IMO. A decent comeback, but i'm not sure if it'll be enough to compete with the top dogs at 154.. I hope he gives Ouma a fight
