  • Comments Thread For: Samuel Vargas Aims To Impress Against Luis Collazo

Samuel Vargas has had a lot of "pinch me" moments in his boxing career. From fighting on national television, to facing world champions, bringing a boxing show to his native Colombia, and headlining arena shows in his hometown of Toronto.

This is decent fight for two guys that were never up at top level.Louis has done an amazing turn around with his life from being a alcoholic just prior to fighting Khan to a guy who is still fighting and training. Sam although limited always gives his all.Decent under card scrap.

I don't get this fight at all. What is the point of it? You should be using Collazo to test your younger fighters or those on the fringe of a title shot. Same with Vargas I guess. But putting them against each other? Now that makes little to no sense.

That's fine, not saying fighters shouldn't fight for money. Just that there were other directions they could have gone at here.

This is a fight to position Collazo into world title contention. Clearly Samuel Vargas is 3 levels below Collazo as a fighter, but you get a fighter with a half-decent record, ranked by the WBA, in an easy victory.

Outside of the top tier, the division is wide open, Collazo could find himself in a mandatory position quickly, and TR would have a mandatory challenger to one of the PBC titlists.

Collazo was signed to be a potential Crawford opponent after the Khan fight. He will get his title shot without having to fight Vargas. Collazo isn't going to get in the top of the rankings anytime soon.

But you know what gets him close to the top of rankings? A win over Bes*****.
