  • Comments Thread For: Chris Algieri Confident He Can Raise His Level Against Hooker

The bright lights of New York City were on full display Friday night at the Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden. Former WBO Super Lightweight World Champion CHRIS ALGIERI (now, 23-3 8KO's) and Queens native DANNY "EL GALLO" GONZALEZ (now 17-2-1 7KO's) stepped in against each other with not only the WBO International Super Lightweight title on the line, but each knowing that a victory would put himself in line for a shot at a 140 lb. title.

Maurice Hooker is that guy who got clowned by Darleys Perez on the Kovalev-Ward undercard & still got a draw. It was bad enough that I use it as evidence of widespread judge bribery in boxing when arguing about other fights. He barely landed a punch over 10 rounds.

He's the WBO champion now? lol... We are one step away from being WWE.

Chris Algeri should have got to Linares before Cano did. That would have been a good name on his resume

I thought the same thing after watching them both fight. At this point, after the way he performed, I’m not sure if Algieri fares any better against Cano. Either way, I think Algieri should fight Cano next before Hooker. It would be a good step if Algieri could get the w vs Cano.

I didn’t see that fight but I will take your word for it because Hooker does have 3 draws on his record. I DID see him fight against Flanagan and Saucedo and he beat both of those guys and they are both tough customers.

Good luck to Chris. Seems a likeable cat & he can fight, but I don't see him beating Hooker based on his 2 comeback fights so he'll definitely need to raise his game to get a W there. And personnally at his age & where he was at & trending towards pre-hiatus I think we've seen the best Chris already.

                I totally agree with you
And I also think Cano would do the same he did with Linares
I really like Linares as a fighter and I don’t think Chris would win that fight also
Don’t good guys finish last ?
                Just asking lol

Yea Cano might be a diaster of a fight for him. I'd be leaning away from that one if I was on his team.

And yea I can't see him beating Linares either.

But sh^t man Chris has had a solid career so its not like this nice guy finished last he just didn't finish first lol. He had a nice lil run. Won a belt. Got to see how he did vs some of the top guys out there including a legend & maybe a future legend in Spence. Most guys never come close to what Chris achieved.

Very good assessment of his career
Definitely a big achievement coming from originally a kickboxer
