Comments Thread For: WBC Prez Reveals New Weight Management Program

One of the top priorities of the WBC for 2019 will be the introduction of the new Weight Management Program, which is intended to protect the health of the fighters above everything. We will need the collaboration from promoters, matchmakers, managers, trainers, boxing commissions, boxing federations, press, and of course, the fighters themselves.

10% is too much. That still means middleweights can weigh 176 pounds on fight night. Wtf is the point of that? Make it 5%. Now middleweights have to be 168 pounds or below arriving to their fight. That's still a full division higher than middleweight. What's wrong with that? What's wrong with having a full division cushion? Even that is a lot. Why do you need a full two division cushion? 176 pounds? Are you kidding me? The WBC is just doing this for show until they make it fight NIGHT weigh-ins that allow only 5% above the contracted weight. 10% is ridiculous. Why not just make it 20% then? May as well if you allow guys to rehydrate 16 ****ing pounds overnight. Light heavyweights will be allowed to be 192.5 pounds upon arrival for their fight LOL. 192.5. May as well not have a limit at all.

"Boxers must not exceed 10% from the official weigh-in." wonder why they weren't thinking this way when the 155 pound king was coming into fights at 174 pounds or refusing to weigh in on the day of fights.

Because Terence Crawford, another king was hydrating to 153lbs for his 135lb fights. so 19 or 18 pounds more from guys like Crawford (who's 3 years older than Canelo), who cares!

        How you like them Apples!?

Callum Smith and Zurdo hydrate to 190lb +. Callum Smith looks heftier than Zurdo Ramirez on fight night and taller than Rocky Fielding. Julio Cesar Chavez said on ESPN Sports that Zurdo hydrates to 195lbs. I don't believe that, maybe 191 at most. But Zurdo and Smith are HUGE 168 fighters. They'd tower Badou Jack who recently came from 168.

There's a reason why Canelo imposed the hydration clause on Fielding. Zurdo and Smith go past 20+lbs on fight night. That's why Oxilofrine is also a wonder drug in the UK!

Gassiev sacrifices 20lbs on his Cruiser weighing. He don't look like this on fight night..

I don't think ANY fighter should be weight cutting hard the way a lot of them do.

Canelo was doing it earlier in his 20’s because those are pivotal years that a body can be so tolerant to the extremities. This is why Canelo at 27 years of age finally transitioned to 160 and didn’t look drained as in his 154 outings. Guys like Steve Kim and Montoya said JCC Jr. going in on fight night at 186lbs at his 160lb outings. Jr., Zurdo, Crawford... all Top Rank. This is why imo Spence is going to be too much for Mikey or Crawford. Spence is really a 154 fighter edging it to 147 the way Canelo did at 154.

Crawford wasn't wbc champion at 135. Nice try but you compared your apples to oranges and therefore , your point was irrelevant.

Yeah when we speak of hydration for any council we are referring to boxers fighting and tennis players eating ice cream before an event, very Apples to Oranges
