Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo's KO Opens Doors To New Opponents At 168

NEW YORK Canelo Alvarez's four-knockdown destruction of Rocky Fielding altered Oscar De La Hoya's perspective on his franchise fighter competing at 168 pounds in his next fight. De La Hoya considered Alvarez's debut at the super middleweight limit as a perfect opportunity to add a world title in a third weight class. Once Alvarez floored Fielding four times once apiece in the first and second rounds, and twice in the third round De La Hoya realized that the Mexican superstar can compete within the 168-pound division regularly.

Go for Callum. That's my dream fight as he's the toughest challenge out of all of them. More dangerous fight than Jacobs, Charlo, GGG, Benavidez.

If he challenges Callum Smith to become a unified Super middleweight champion, and wins, he instantly earns a lock for ATG status.

I hope this is a joke? Canelo is a top fighter but just brought a title against the weakest champion out there.

                Here is a Wildcard

                Dmitry Bivol

Bivol is the Current 175 Pound Champion who said he would go to 168 to fight Callum Smith (Because of money he would almost certainly go to 168 for Canelo as well), If Bivol Beats C. Smith then he would be the 168 and 175 pound Champion, So Canelo could win both the 168 AND 175 pound titles on the SAME NIGHT, as Sugar Ray Leonard did by beating Donny Lalonde for BOTH the 168 and 175 pound titles, with the CONTRACTED WEIGHT OF 168.

A wild card I know and Bivol would have to fight C. Smith by February in order for the winner to fight Canelo in May, so September would be FAR MORE REALISTIC for this scenario to occur.

Canelo said he would NEVER FIGHT at 175 as it is too big, but this would give him a shot at the 175 pound title in a fight where the wight limit is 168 (I doubt it happens, but just throwing it out there).

If Canelo fights Smith then I will eat a full raw onion. He ain't fighting anybody with a pulse, watch out for the bum of the month club. Why not fight Charlo at 160 or Jacobs? Because those 2 haven't shown signs of wear and tear.

He also has the best resume in the sport and just fought Golovkin back to back.
