Comments Thread For: McGirt Discusses Training Sergey Kovalev For Alvarez Rematch

Once the "Boogey Man" of the light heavyweight division, Sergey Kovalev is 2-3 in his past five fights with two each in stoppage wins and knockout losses. "The Krusher" (32-3-1, 28 KOS) was considered the division's best as IBF/WBA/WBO champion at 30-0-1 with 26 KOs, eight title defenses and stoppages against 10 of 12 previous opponents before suffering consecutive losses to two-division champion Andre Ward in November 2016 and June 2017.

Kovalev has a stamina issue. He tires after a few rounds and is too dependent on getting the other guy out of there early. Let's see if McGirt can help that.

How many loses do you need to take, champ before you wisen up. You're 35 now, you're weaknesses are exposed for everyone to see and you still won't commit 100%. C'mon Kov...you could have been one of the greatest...let's get it together. I hope Buddy can tell you something that makes a difference.

            I agree--not fixable at this P.I.T.
Just take it to mid-rds, and Kov is out of gas.

I think Kovalov can win this fight he was doing great until he got caught. It happens. He just has to be a lil more careful and McGirt is a VERY good trainer.

I think Kovalev will win the rematch pretty comfortably tbh. I had him wining 5 of the 6 rounds and then he just got caught. I expect Kovalev to win by Decision or late stoppage

Rather kill yourself than to move up? Not only is it dangerous, it's a b*tch move too! Should've cashed out with Usyk!
