Comments Thread For: Kathy Duva: What Will Boxing World Look Like Without HBO In It?

By Keith Idec - Kathy Duva remembers that June 2002 afternoon as if it were yesterday. It was an especially meaningful moment for the veteran promoter because it marked the first time as Main Events' CEO that Duva was the lead negotiator for a lucrative HBO bout involving one of her company's fighters. She sat in on many meetings at HBO's headquarters in New York first alongside her late husband, Dan Duva, then with former Main Events executive Gary Shaw and manager Shelly Finkel...

It's looking pretty good actually. Someone seems bitter they were left out because of HBO's exit.

I didn’t get that at all from this article. Sad to say it but nothing will foreshadow HBO in its significance to boxers and boxing as a whole. DAZN won’t top it, ESPN, nor FOX. The article was spot on, every boxer knew they made it when they made it to HBO and that was the goal. This is not the same for the aforementioned fly by night operations

Wrong, every boxer knows they made it when they get paid. Network is irrelevant as long as the money is there.

Yeah Duva isn't bitter. That's just a hair trigger catchphrase that some people simply luv to use these days... and way too much I may add.

This was a good article... just basically trying to look into the future of the sport without the standard we had for decades. Alotta issues to tackle. Wish I had gotten into promoting boxing cards and rock concerts back in the 70s... it would've been a great time to do well with it.

Their greed and politics killed them. They brought this on their self and won't be missed. Boxing is bigger than any network.

Wrong! You obviously didn’t even read the article because if you had you’d never had made this statement. Here I’ll cut it out for you

“Bivol told BoxingScene.com recently that he took less money for this fight than he was offered to box on other platforms because he has long wanted to headline an HBO “World Championship Boxing” broadcast.”

That's one fighter....I'm willing to bet you any amount of money that the majority of top fighters would take the money over HBO.
