  • Comments Thread For: Joseph Parker: After Flores, Hopefully I'll Be Fighting in The UK

Joseph Parker (24-2) has been involved in two of the biggest heavyweight fights of 2018. Unfortunately neither went the way New Zealand native had hoped for. In March he lost a unanimous decision to WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Anthony Joshua and in July he traded knockdowns with top contender Dillian Whyte in another decision loss.

Makes sense most lucrative opponents at heavyweight are in the UK. His options are limited in the US, even if he signed with Haymon, most of his fighters don't fight regularly and many of his heavies just continually fight soft touches and Parker will want to be back in the mix fighting quality opposition sooner rather than later it seems.

He needs to be careful though. His flaws have been exposed and he'll need more time to fix them. Sticking with Barry is a mistake too, so another loss now will relegate him to non-contender status.

Joey Parker is going to have more incentive to fight in the UK once Deontay 'Bronze-Bomber' Wilder flushes that turd Tyson Fury back home.

To be fair, Wilder hasn't fought many live dogs who are young and hungry. We know he's good, but it's hard to say how good given his resume. Ortiz was always going to struggle in the later rounds.

Interesting to see how Parker's career develops from here. I think if he still has ambitions of becoming the champ now is a good time to spend a year working on things in the gym and testing them out against a slightly lower calibre of opponent (but not as low as this Flores guy). At 26 he can afford to take his time. On the other hand he could probably jump right into fights against the likes of Usyk and Miller for solid paydays, but if he can't beat them then his future is basically to become a gatekeeper

I dont see how he can still have the hunger, he is already a very laid back guy outside the ring (even in the ring at times) now he is a multi millionaire in his mid 20's.

As someone who has followed his entire career i am very dissapointed how its panned out so far, his team basically engineered the AJ payday as quickly as they could, watch kevin barrys face when AJ is dropped by klitschko in the pub where they are watching it, he is devastated when he thinks AJ is about to lose and thereby lose the huge payday he thinks hes going to get, whereas Parker is cheering for klitschko, he doesnt care about the payday hes cheering on his friend who he helped in camp...

I remember posting on here before the Takam fight was announced that it was terribile matchmaking and rushing a guy that was barely out of his teens for no reason.
He hadnt fought a single guy in the top 50 and his next fight was Takam? what was his best win at that stage....a 45 year old kali meehan? Jason bergman?

He needs to ditch the people around him that are using him for money (Barry has a history of it, Tua claimed he spent 6 months plotting to kill him...and lets be real is a very bad trainer)

If he doesnt he will be thrown in with, like you say usyk or big baby and then have a few more fights in NZ agaisnt nobodies/try and build the fight with him and Junior Fa.

At this point, Parker can be seen for exactly what he is, a gate keeper at best. He needs to stick to Burger King cards in New Zealand because I'm sure I'm not the only one who is tired of seeing him in a big fight and doing nothing. He has literally done nothing since he started stepping up his fights and no one wants to see him walk around the ring, not throwing anything for 11 rounds and then claiming victory. And it's not his trainer, it's him. He has no heart
