Comments Thread For: Joe Joyce: After Hanks, I'll Be Ready For a Big Fight in Early 2019

2016 Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce (6-0, 6 KOs) is planning to do a lot of damage when he faces his sixth opponent of 2018. Joyce will collide with heavyweight veteran Joe Hanks (23-2, 15 KOs) in a 10 round bout, as part of the undercard to the WBC world title clash between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.

Joyce isn't a young man. He needs to step up soon. Hanks should be the last tomato can he faces.

Joyce isn't a young man. That being said, two years ago he was winning the silver in the Olympics and this will be his sixth fight of 2018.

Joyce isn't some phenom like Loma, so he does need brought along somewhat. And Joyce is a heavyweight, where most fighters in the division qualify as tomato cans.

He isn't some world beater, and is clearly below the four top dogs at hw, but he might be able to hang with the second tier, with Charles Martin, Whyte, Miller, Kownacki, Jennings, Parker, etc. etc. He gets a couple wins against those type of guys and he will get a shot at Wilder.

Truthfully, I just don't see Joyce being able to beat the best. So, it really doesn't matter much to me who he fights or how slowly he is brought along. Although a Joyce-Kownacki fight would interest me. That is a fight I would like to see.

I would like to see Haymon start matching some of his best heavyweights together. Joyce, Kownacki and Breazeale should all be fighting each other in 2019.

The irony is that he had been progressing/stepping quite significantly and touted to take on a top20 opponent.

Then his next fight is on an undercard against an unknown and I have no idea what rank he might be?

Wasted fight for someone who was trying to accelerate quickly given his age

Don't forget heavyweights Tony Yoka and Efe Ajagba, like Joe Joyce, are all signed to Richard Schaefer's RingStar! PBC should be making a lot of noise at Heavyweight:

                    May 30, 2018:

Heavyweight Efe Ajagba scored a highlight reel knockout of Dell Long this past weekend at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Mississippi to run his record to 5-0 (5 KO's).

One punch from Ajagba sent Long down and out - for quite some time.

This bout was part of the FS1 broadcast and for many it was the first look at the 24-year old Nigerian, who was signed to a promotional deal by Ringstar Sports as he turned pro last year.

This last outing has Richard Schaefer excited about this boxers future.

"I talked to Al (Haymon) afterwards about him. He's managed by Shelly Finkel - Shelly and Al work closely together with Deontay Wilder - another reporter told me recently that they haven't seen Shelly as excited about a fighter as they have been with Efe Ajagba. Shelly has a good eye for heavyweights, so he thinks very highly of him."

Ajagba represented his country in the 2016 Olympics.

"He's the one who won the knockout of the Olympics, of all the weight classes at the Rio Olympics," Schaefer pointed.

"So with Ronnie Shields he has a great trainer, he feels very comfortable in Houston (Texas). He's from Nigeria, same background as Anthony Joshua. The largest Nigerian population outside of Nigeria is in Houston so he feels very good there."

Schaefer believes that he has three of the best heavyweight prospects in the world with Joe Joyce, Tony Yoka and Ajagba...
