Comments Thread For: Sauerland: Baranchyk-Taylor A 'High Probability' For Glasgow

Josh Taylor could be back in Glasgow sooner rather than later. The WBC Silver super-lightweight champion retained his title with a career-best performance on Saturday night. Taylor, 27, ousted 25-year-old Ryan Martin in the quarter-final of the World Boxing Super Series at the SSE Hydro, stopping the previously undefeated American talent inside seven rounds, exclusively live on iFL TV in the UK and on DAZN in the States.

Tartan tornado is a little spacious around the world. The Scottie home body sounds more like it.

Considering the Hydro holds 13,000 at full capacity, I'm sure they can re-jig the set up to get nearer 10,000 seats.
Baranchyk possibly hits a touch harder but he definitely has inferior skills and slower hands.

Ryan Martin "fought" like a hired sparring partner.
Josh needs to bring more than his A game to subdue Baranchyk ....a far cry from Ryan Martin!!!

This is wrong & "very wrong"! In all fairness at this stage of the tournament all remaining contests should take place on neutral ground with all officials neutral. Not only is it the fairest way but also cuts any issues regarding home town decisions!!...........

Ryan Martin froze big time this weekend, the WBSS was far too soon for him in hindsight. I don't think Baranchyk will freeze the same way; I thought Yigit was going to outbox him, but the Swede looked like he got hit by a bus by the time the ref stopped the fight.
Taylor vs Baranchyk should be a cracker, but could have been staged in neutral territory. Comosa have used Monaco in the past and it would be perfect for this fight in terms of neutrality - roughly half way for both fighters and their fans if you discount Germany. Saying that, if one semi final ends up in neutral territory then other one surely has to be as well.

Sauerland and the WBSS producers pick the venue, not Taylor. Their aim is to maximise revenue, and as much as I like Baranchyk it's hard to see a fight in Minsk or in his adopted home of Miami, Oklahoma doing better than a Glasgow fight.

I do agree that it does seem a bit unfair that Taylor gets two fights on the bounce in his back yard though, and I'd say the same if Prograis vs Relikh goes to New Orleans or Houston, even though they are the obvious choices. Ha... strange that the two 'other' semi-finalists are both Belarusian though - it really ain't a big country.

Where's the money come from to fund this tournament? TV coverage is provided free via internet streaming (which is nice) & advertising appears to be minimal. Okay maybe Saudi Arabia, Japan & Russia have obviously heavily invested, but how can Glasgow & New Orleans afford to pay for their home town fighters to gain an advantage?
