  • Comments Thread For: George Groves Rules Out Retirement Despite Knockout Loss

George Groves has ruled out retirement despite losing his world title. The former WBA Super world super-middleweight king was stopped inside seven rounds in the World Boxing Super Series final on Friday night. Groves was in against 28-year-old Scouser Callum Smith, exclusively live on ITV Box Office, at the indoor arena at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. But after early success in the fight in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Groves was swarmed upon by Smith after Mundo' landed a left hook and unleashed a barrage of shots to force referee Luis Pabon to call a halt to proceedings.

Has the boxing skills but no chin nor heart. You can see him shaking his head "No" during the refs count basically indicating he's had enough.

He has had too many wars, Smith caught him at the right stage of his career. I thought Eubank was going to be the one to do it but he had no boxing brain. Great fight by Smith and am happy for him, finally one of the four boxing brothers brings it home for the family.

Yeah me too - thought he just didn’t fancy it, but not a chance he was getting up after that body shot after seeing the replays. Think he was saying no to his corner rather than the refs count too.

He should have taken a knee after the left hook to be honest, rather than shipping another 3 big punches on the ropes. Might have seen his way through the round and maybe back into the fight - although I think Smith buzzed him a few times in earlier rounds too.

Groves actually boxed well. It was an even fight going into the 7th. He was still vulnerable to counters but he was composed. Had he gotten pummeled from pillar to post and lost every round that would've been different, but this was a competitive fight.

I'd give him a good shot to beat someone like Uzcategui. But he'd struggle with the speed and power that the other champs have.

He went all the way to the Middle East to get knocked out. What worse when he is at an Arabian hospital dealing with his concussion laying on the hospital bed he can’t even grab his women’s arse or palm her t#its he just has to lie there with a swollen head and abide by the countries rules.

I said to watch out for Smith's body shots! Those damn long arms just go around the guard of anyone shorter than him - which is pretty much everyone at SMW
