Comments Thread For: Linares Finds New Hunger at 140, Still Eyes Mikey Garcia, Loma

Three-time world champion Jorge Linares is very motivated to get back in the mix, after suffering a knockout loss at the hands of Vasiliy Lomachenko back in May at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Linares will return to the ring on September 29 when he faces Abner Cotto, who is the cousin of four division champion Miguel Cotto.

Linares had a very good performance against Lomachenko. Let's not forget that it was a competitive fight up until the liver shot. Linares got caught with a fight ending shot and there's no shame in that. Loma's considered the number one pound for pound fighter in the world and he was knocked down by Linares. Linares is a world class fighter and hopefully he rebounds in his upcoming fight in a new weight division.

The potential match-ups for Jorge Linares vs. the young lions at jr. welterweight are very appealing. I can see some of them turn-out like Josh Taylor vs. the vet Viktor Postol ; sensational world-level battles.

However for the following months the WBSS 140 tournament will occupy most of the top tens in the jr. welterweight class, so I wonder who would be good enough and available for Jorge? I can imagine a tune-up is in order.

Edit: Abner Cotto it is -- not bad.

Good to see Jorge back in the saddle so to say.
I think he will adjust to 140 perfectly.
He has the potential to get another belt.
Let's see how he does against Cotto.

This dude is a great stepping stone

Good fighter for the 140lb crowd but there is too many wolfs in that division already that are waiting to take his lunch money.

WTF?! what you have been watching this fight with? It was one sided beating until accidental knockdown of one handed Loma which bring Linares back for a couple of rounds until the stoppage... Linares could not do **** against one handed Loma and starting from 2nd round he was looking for a 5th corner to escape, overconfident Loma just got dropped because of his own fault not because of superpowerful Linares. Rematch has no sense at all.. Feed Linares to Mikey Garcia to get trough the real test

Feed him to either Mikey, Broner or even a rematch with DeMarco.
