  • Comments Thread For: Bob Arum: HBO and Showtime Don't Belong In Boxing Anymore

LAS VEGAS A few hours before the biggest boxing match of 2018, Bob Arum wasn't ready to call Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin the last high-profile pay-per-view fight HBO would ever televise. The outspoken promoter, whose company long prospered from its work with HBO, is still convinced that the premium cable network soon will move away from broadcasting boxing. Arum also suspects Showtime, which has committed more dates and resources to boxing in recent years than its longtime rival, won't continue airing boxing much longer, either.

IMO, SHO/HBO should stay in boxing because Fox and ESPN are subjected to different rules than SHO in terms of language and violence.

Fox and ESPN will mute any foul language, which takes away from the drama for me. Both networks will also show cuts, blood and any injuries as "soft" as possible, which also takes away from the event IMO.

The major networks also will also rush to get to Sportscenter or the evening news because those are major money earners. That might make them likely to cut the post fight interviews short.

I agree with Bob in principle and I think his points are smart and fair. I just hope we still have boxing on Premium cable.

If Canelo & GGG are leaving HBO then they don't have stars anymore. Only future stars like Bivol & Munguia left.

Many more would say that Bob is the one that doesn't belong in boxing anymore.

Quit hating Bob . HBO leaving boxing won't be as big of a deal because of their lack of shows in the past years . But Showtime leaving boxing ?
              I can't see it happening .

NBC and CBS used to be. The key is to get more casuals watching. People are not paying for boxing. Hence why the UFC is on top. It's always on for free so much that you are actually interested in paying for the ppv. Boxing is you gotta pay extra just to watch the basic fights then pay out of your ass for the ppvs. This system been broken. If they can put big fights on regular ESPN why not? That's really the only thing that can say the sport. Look at PR? look at America this kids ain't boxing no more. It's either basketball in the USA or Soccer world wide.

F that, I don't want to pay extra for that.
