  • Comments Thread For: Is There a Second Act For Roman Gonzalez?

By Cliff Rold - Nothing lasts forever, but in boxing some fighters can feel so automatic it's hard to see the crash coming. From the time he first caught the attention of hardcore fans in a dominating stoppage of veteran Yutaka Niida for his first title, Roman Gonzalez often left that impression...

    Good article Cliff.
I hope Choco can come back from all the setbacks he's had and re-establish himself as a top p4p fighter. It certainly won't be easy and i am doubtful it will happen, but at least no-one can take away from what he has already achieved in his career.
Gentleman outside the ring and warrior inside, my kind of fighter!

I mean, how do you go against the reality that his style isn't the kind a fighter builds a long career around. Past this fight, unless he wants to keep taking it a step down, as was said, there are a bunch of tough-outs in his weight range. You could see the frustration on his face in the Cuadras battle, the Srisaket Sor Rungvisai battle, and we saw him looking resigned to a loss the whole way through the second Srisaket Sor Rungvisai fight. I would be surprised if he can get back up to top level fights again.

most likely not, hell even his look at the weighin look like that of a person going through the motion.

No he's past it. maybe he'll win back a world title but I dont think he'll get back to where he was. roman was the pound for pound number 1 in the world.

He always was a overrated fighter, he is very good but never was the #1.

He fought with Estrada in 108 pounds, Estrada was drained.

Then he ducked Estrada when both fighters were champions in flyweight.

Against Cuadras he did not win.

              And Sor destroyer him.

All the rivals that he had were old men and b classes

I never thought he was that great. I hated hearing HBO hype him.
