Comments Thread For: Canelo-Golovkin Rematch: Judges, Referee Assigned By NSAC

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin now know who'll score their rematch if it goes the distance. The Nevada State Athletic Commission has assigned Connecticut's Glenn Feldman, Nevada's Dave Moretti and New Jersey's Steve Weisfeld to work their second 12-round, 160-pound middleweight championship match September 15 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Bob Bennett, the NSAC's executive director, suggested those three judges to the five-member commission, which approved them Wednesday during the NSAC's monthly meeting in Las Vegas.

I like the judge and ref choices. I'm glad that neither Weeks, nor the Byrds will be involved in officiating, although I think Robert is an excellent ref. Esteves is an excellent ref too. Adalaide Byrd shouldn't even judge a pie bake off.

This time they took a path of referee to be the weakest link. GGG won't be allowed to engage and if knocked down for a second, referee would rule this a TKO. Another controversy coming. Fabulous. There is no way the "system" will allow Canelo to lose this one.

I'll never forget how Weeks ended the 2nd Kovalev fight. That was just wrong. Ward would probably have won anyway after his below belt assault distracted Kovalev to a (admittedly) perfectly timed jab/overhand right - but damn!! ----- he should have at least warned Ward, given Kov seconds to recover and then, if it was going to happen, let Ward finish him off. Waving it off without a count denied Ward some glory. I've seen Weeks do other dubious stuff too.
Byrd as a referee is dodgy for me too.

The 4 officials now in place should do a good job so lets see whats up on the night.

Weeks stopped Mayweather-McGregor early as well. Good choice not to pick him.
