Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Boxes Past Carlos Ruiz To Win Decision

ATLANTIC CITY There were times Saturday night that Shakur Stevenson seemed to land at will against Carlos Ruiz. No matter how many times Stevenson connected, though, his determined Mexican opponent kept moving forward. Stevenson couldn't knock down Ruiz, but the 2016 Olympic silver medalist's activity and accuracy enabled him to convincingly beat Ruiz in an uneventful eight-rounder on the Bryant Jennings-Alexander Dimitrenko undercard at Ocean Resort Casino.

Stevenson is boring enough to become another Andre Ward. And yes, that would be terrible for Boxing.

Stevenson turned it up a bit in rounds 4 and 5, but needed to be willing to fire more against a overwhelmed opponent. Threw some beautiful looping shots, but far too often they were single shots or at times he doubled it up. His body is growing, but at this point it is fair to wonder if he will have enough pop to hold off strong pressure fighters. If not, then he will eventually get mauled and lose before he makes it to the top.

I been old yall Stevenson don't have no real dog in him and the jury on his chin is still out.

I just dont see the kid ever having a big name in the sport no matter the skills he's just plain boring compared to the other young prospects..

He’s very over hyped. Good fighter, not great. Haney would crush him.

Andre Ward is an ATG. This kid will never be. Then again I see you’re from Russia. Makes sense now.
