Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Hopkins Will Cheer Canelo To Derail Record Attempt

As BoxingScene.com previously reported, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) will attempt to snap the defense record of division great Bernard Hopkins, when the undefeated beltholder steps in the ring to defend his titles against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Triple G String's 19 defenses were based on bums Danny Jacobs and Canelo anyways. Piece of shit even fighting 147 lbs fighters at 160 and he wanted NO part of fighting SOG at 168. Most overrated and hypocrite "champion" i've seen.

The fact is Hopkins set the record of 20 successful title defenses without taking any risky fights during his 10-year reign as a MW champion. His toughest fights were against Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya, John David Jackson, Glen Johnson, Robert Allen, Syd Vanderpool, William Joppy and Howard Eastman. Trinidad and De La Hoya were welterweights. DUH!

WOW! I was there in LA when Smith Jr knocked out Hopkins. It was a series of clean punches that knocked an old BHOP off balance, through the ropes, and straight down to the floor. SMH. Seriously, you could have tried to hold him up. But the dude straight up ran away, like WTF!?

There’s two flaws here. Somebody work with me.

                  1. The “draw” with Alvarez should count as a title defense because he kept the belts. For some reason that doesn’t count. YET...

                  2. Hopkins had a no contest vs. Robert Allen which should NOT count as a defense but they count it for some reason.

Count the wins and you have 19 plus the no contest which actually also stops the streak. Someone please explain.

should've taken an easier fight than canelo to break the record.
