  • Comments Thread For: Teofimo Lopez's Father: My Son is Going To Be a PPV Star!

There's no doubt that lightweight Teofimo Lopez (10-0, 8 KOs) is going places. After his most recent outing - an impressive sixth round knockout of William Silva on July 14th - many believe he is ready for a title shot sooner rather than later.

Loma vs Teofimo would be a good fight about 18 months from now. Any longer than that it would get stale. Teofimo's team would be crazy to wait much longer than that, because at his age, it's just important to get on that big stage as soon as possible, win or lose. Similar to Canelo-Mayweather. Even if Teofimo loses to Loma, getting on that big stage will give him the fame he needs to set up future PPV fights with guys closer to his age like Tank Davis, Shakur Stevenson, possibly Haney and Conlan down the road, Verdejo if he ever gets back on track, etc etc.

And of course, with Teofimo's speed, skills, and POWER, there is always a chance he beats Loma, which would make him ten times the star he will ever be if he waits to fight Loma until Loma gets older and it doesn't mean anything to beat him anymore. Similar to Alvarez vs Kovalev. If Alvarez had beaten Kovalev four years ago, Alvarez would be on the P4P lists right now, and would be getting huge buzz as a new star in boxing. But because he beat old Kovalev, he is not on any P4P lists, and most the buzz is about Kovalev, the story of his decline etc, not about Alvarez. Teofimo's team should not make the same mistake.

He definitely has the skills, speed and flashy personality. He looks the goods but it is still early. I remember Francisco Bojado being 9-0 with 9 ko's and he was being looked at as a future superstar as well. You just never know.

                **** I hope not.

PPV's are what's wrong with the sport of boxing.

If he wants to be a Ppv start he better start playing up to the Mexican fan base ala GGG style.
