  • Comments Thread For: Dmitry Bivol Still Motivated To Unify By Year's End, Says Manager

With Sergey Kovalev getting stopped in seven rounds by Eleider Alvarez in rather stunning fashion this past Saturday night in Atlantic City, New Jersey, it scuttles plans to have Kovalev face Dmitry Bivol in what would've been a light heavyweight unification bout in the winter.

Awesome. Please Bivol-Alvarez next please Bivol-Alvarez next please please please. The last thing boxing needs is another Al Haymon light heavyweight taking a belt back to PBC and never letting the top guys fight for it for the better part of a decade. When HBO fighters have belts, they give chances to all comers to win it, which is how Alvarez just won it in the first place, and how Marcus Browne was about to get a shot at the belt as well. HBO has an option for one more Alvarez fight at least apparently, that needs to be Bivol vs Alvarez.

What a great unification that would be - two unbeaten champions, both with great skills, both very likable and personable, guys you can root for!

He needs a few more bouts before moving up in competition. I do not like the way he finished the other night. The last 3 or 4 rounds were not impressive and he seemed to fade a bit.
I think he is 26 or 27 years old so another 3 bouts would benefit his experience immensely.
He needs to mature more and maintain a better pace through 12 rds.

Bivol is not ready yet for Alvarez. Had they fought last night Alvarez wins in humiliating fashion. However, Bivol in another 2-3 fights sure. Alvarez is HIGHLY experienced with an excellent jab and surprising power all of a sudden. Now I know why “Superman” ducked his mandatory like he ducks all his mandatories

Bivol vs. Alvarez should be easy to make.

The question is, will Kovalev rematch Alvarez or pass on it?

If Bivol is so easy to beat then Alvarez should have no fear taking the fight next. Why is then that I expect Al Haymon to keep him far away from Bivol, just like he kept Stevenson away from prime Kovalev, Beterbiev, Alvarez, and everyone else?

But I hope you're right and that Alvarez and his team see it that way. I just want to see the fight. Bivol says he's ready, so that puts the ball in Alvarez's court. I'll believe an Al Haymon fighter taking two tough opponents in a row when I see it, not before.
