  • Comments Thread For: Alexander, Berto Believe Winner Will Get Welterweight Title Shot

Devon Alexander and Andre Berto both believe the winner of their fight Saturday night will get a welterweight title shot. The 12-round, 147-pound bout between the 31-year-old Alexander (27-4-1, 14 KOs) and the 34-year-old Berto (31-5, 24 KOs) isn't a championship elimination match. But according to these former welterweight champions, it might as well be a title eliminator in Uniondale, New York.

Guessing it'll be Thurman or Spence.

It'll be a good last fight for either. For some reason I want Devon to win this fight. Maybe I've seen enough of Berto lol

I've been saying the winner will get Spence since this fight was announced. Alexander is ranked 5th for the IBF. Still, if Mikey fights Spence, that could screw Alexander over. Because then Spence will fight Mikey late this year, possibly have a mandatory against Ugas next year, followed by the winner of DSG-Porter.

Alexander has some name recognition and is honestly probably about as good as anyone else out of the top 5 ww's.

I'm with Butch above me. Seen too much Berto. Guy has been a gatekeeper for 7 or 8 years now.

Alexander took a while off to deal with addiction problems, so it is kind of a feel good story with him. Rooting for some one to overcome personal problems and fight his way back into a title fight. Can't see him winning a title, but just to get back to contention as a ww, will be a heck of an achievement.

The sad part is, one of these guys probably will get a title shot in a scam fight vs one of the elite guys. The winner of this fight in reality is in the same lane as guys like Victor Ortiz, Brandon rios, amir khan, Collazo. These guys should be fighting each other and face the fact that they're not deserving of world title contender status anymore.

Battle of the gate keepers. If the winner does get a shot, I'm sure Thurman will jump on that one. Spence will fight M.Garcia then the winner of Porter/D.Garcia.

I hope Crawford takes that fight vs the winner instead of the semi-retired Thurman.

If the winner gets a titel shot, whatever title holder gives them that shot will be accused of cherry picking and rightfully so.

I got Berto winning this fight and I base my opinion on a common opponent they had in Victor Ortiz. Berto KO'd him while Alexander got a draw (though it was controversial). Anyways I look forward to checking it out later on tonight!

I could even see Arum paying up a bit for one of those guys to fight Crawford, kind of an established guy and opens up things a bit with PBC. Not like Haymon really needs either guys so can easily be a throwaway on a lottery ticket since Crawford would handle either but if they won. Since Crawford would be a heavy favorite Arum would likely take that risk for someone with a bit of a name to fight Crawford.

If they are needed to fight Spence, thurman or the winner of Garcia Porter there is that also

aint checked the alphabet rankings in a while, but porter has been thurmans mandatory for at least a year. if he beats garcia and gets a title that may change. pacquiao has the "regular" WBA, and i think thurman is still the real WBA champion...i bet its spence.

where these two with the WBO?
