  • Comments Thread For: Frank Warren: Smith Was Not at Very Best With Jaime Munguia

LIAM SMITH, AS always, gave his absolute everything in his bid to become WBO world super welterweight champion for the second time in the early hours of Sunday morning over in Las Vegas. Unfortunately it wasn't quite enough on the night against a talented young champion in Jaime Munguia and the shame of it is that we didn't get to see Beefy at his very best at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

He couldnt put a dent in the guy at 154..whats he gonna achieve going up against heavier fighters?

The guy hit his ceiling & got lucky against the welsh fella with that cut

Liam Smith, as always, gave his absolute everything - So he gave his best but he wasn't at his best???

I disagree with Warren, Liam was clearly outboxing Jaime in the first five rounds but Smith is not durable enough for Munguia's relentless pressure, I remember how it went in scoring it live in the RBR thread.

'Beefy' is just a local euro level boxer, not even serious contender, Liam has no business fighting outside the UK.

He fought well enough. He was just facing a much bigger opponent that was applying a lot of pressure.

Smith would be a fool to leave 154.

Hurd and Munguia will not be able to make weight in a year or so, and Charlo is going to the big house. That would leave all 4 belts scattered to the wind.

Smith handled himself well in there, its just that relentless style eventually wore him down and he tired later on. Munguia got a bundle of energy in reserve too.

Frank Warren is never at a loss finding excuses for his fighters but is quick to point the fingers at others that do similar.

Beefy looked 40 years old in there, he fought his ass off but the reality is he's not up to par against the big dogs, not even the young ones.
