Comments Thread For: Manny Pacquiao - One of The Greatest

By Michael Rosenthal - When Manny Pacquiao was in his prime, the accolades landed at the same rate as his impossibly quick punches. The years that stand out most are 2008 and 2009, when he sensationally knocked out in succession Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto to become a worldwide superstar and stake his claim as one of the best fighters in the world...

So the years and fights that stick out, happen to be the exact time frame that he had Ariza giving him mystery shakes. Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

This piece is like something written about how great Barry Bonds was, without ever mentioning the su****ions against him. After all, both Pac and Barry never failed any tests. Both were great, then suddenly became much better. Both had heads that grew in size during their 30's.

Pac with his insane speed .
          Before Ariza.
Under Ariza, lost to Marquez by KO . Looked like sh8 against Bradley.
          Shakes must have stopped working.

Pac should have went down to 140 after Cotto.

No great fighter from any era eschewed at least a degree of controversy. So, even willing to consider the hypothetical PED issue, Pacquiao is an ATG without ifs and buts. Or else, we should reconsider the entirety of boxing history.

Welterweight was never his natural weight. The dumbass only there to get payday. He should go back to lightweight or superlightweight if he wants to dominate again.

Yes, at the lower weights Manny was at his best. There is no reason to suspect anything before he moved up to fight Diaz. Same is true with Bonds, there was no reason to suspect him until he put on more weight.

Also, Pac's ko and power disappeared immediately after accusations were raised, and Pac came up with numerous different excuses about why he wouldn't take ped tests. Maybe the mystery drinks stopped when the accusations began. Regardless of when the mystery drinks stopped, we do know, that his best years, and best fights was cut short when Floyd asked for ped testing. He went from ko'ing ODLH, Hatton, and Cotto, to not ko'ing anyone. Ever again. Not even Rios. Not even Algieri.

For the record, I believe every good pro boxer from the early 90's to they started real testing about 2010-2012 was juicing. Including Floyd.

Pac just sticks out, has he ko'd top opponents after moving up numerous divisions in weight. Then has soon as the accusations began, the ko's stopped.

We reconsider the 90's in baseball. Why wouldn't pro boxers, also use peds? They took the same tests as baseball players. Their livelihood and income was directly related to their performances in the ring.

To consider the hypothetical ped issue for Bonds is the same. Bonds was an all time great before he bulked up. Manny was an all time great before he bulked up.

I do not understand why anyone would believe that boxers from the early 90's until after 2010 were all clean. We saw Holyfield and Mosley get caught in the same scandals. We have seen numerous pro's fail ped tests from the early 90's til the present day. PEDs were not that widespread before the 90's. We have seen Hopkins fight til the age of 50 at an elite level. We have seen Floyd fight to the age of 40 at an unbelievably elite level. We have seen Pac jump up divisions and ko opponents, when he couldn't finish smaller opponents. We have seen the Klitshcko's fight at an elite level to their 40's. That s^^^ is su****ious as can be.
