Comments Thread For: Callum Smith: I Want To Prove I'm The Best in The World at 168!

Liverpool's Callum Smith (24-0, 17 KOs) believes that he is the best Super middleweight in the world and hopes to prove it against London-based WBA World titlist George Groves (28-3, 20 early) when the two meet in the WBSS 168lb final later this year. Although there is strong talk that the event will be contested abroad, with Jeddah, Saudi Arabia being mooted, Smith is still unsure whether Groves will recover from the dislocated shoulder he picked up when out-pointing Chris Eubank Jr. in February and the 28-year-old Liverpudlian is equally prepared to meet Eubank should he step in to replace Groves.

Callum Smith has been doing a great job convincing me by ducking Andre Dirrell and David Benavidez, it should ALSO be noted that old-man Juergen Braehmer was screwed in the semi-finals of this sham pro British WBSS SP-Middleweight tournament : I mean George Groves was given all this time to recover from shoulder-injury and surgery but Braehmer could not get enough time to recover from the flu! Now this bum Callum Smith gets another break headed into the finals vs. a injured George Groves!

It had to be a Missmatchroom fighter for all of these factors to be in play.

There is a reason Smith has been carefully matched... Groves beats him on points.

Pro British? Most of the current World Champions turned it down. Including that bum Zurdo.

Plus Usyk was given time to get over his injury too? Explain that one thicko...

The SM-WBC championship was vacant after B. Jack vacated, Callum first ducked Dirrell, Zurdo Ramirez was incapacitated due to a hand injury to join this bogus tournament.

And what about Usyk? Why not focus on this tournament at hand?! Juergen Braehmer was not given a few weeks to recover from the common flu, but the WBSS found enough time to let George Groves have surgery and recover ; inititially the prospect of E.U bum jr filling-in was given serious consideration....whatever happen to that? Politics clearly maneuvered Callum Smith to where hes at the moment ; standing to win the WBSS off a injured GG -- even though he never earned it.

I honestly think this guy is trash. Groves is not even elite in my book. This a C vs B - fight that's all. I will give it to the brits they always had a deep pool at 168lb for a couple of years now. Until Andre cleaned through it.

it's a completely different situation to George Groves. Braehmer pulled out on fight week!

That's why the WBSS have reserves fighting on the card, so they don't have to cancel the entire show if a fighter pulls out a few days before.

If Usyk/Gassiev/Groves/Smith pull out on their fight week, they'll be replaced. That's how the tournament works.

You just let your hate for the UK get in the way of any sane argument on this forum. It's embarrassing.

These 'rules' are arbitrarily enforced and are clearly flawed : the fact the board of the WBSS litterally considered E.U Bum jr. to win it all says all you need to know. The board of the WBSS had set the conclusion for June, its about to be August!

Sauerland confirmed that the final could not take place as late as August, insisting that the organisers wont wait for the saint. '' Were not going to postpone finals months because it goes against the whole principal of ( the tournament)...''

                Yeah right pffft!!!

It's the first season so there is always going to be issues that occur. I agree it's taken to long but the fans want to see the REAL final and not reserves who lost in the semi final.

Plus nobody sane in the UK had Eubank Jr getting past GG let alone winning it.

The WBSS is great for boxing imo and you of all people should be looking forward to the bantams in season 2.

I'm good with the cruiser-weight tournament, the upcoming WBSS 118 tournament is promising, but I'm keeping a close eye on that bum Ryan Burnett and how Sauerland treats him -- I'm expecting him to get the easiest opponents -- like Callum Smith!
