  • Comments Thread For: Kavaliauskas Ready For Title Shot, Willing To Face Crawford

Should welterweight contender Egis Kavaliauskas (19-0, 16 KO's) defeat Juan Carlos Abreu on Saturday night at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, will 'the Mean Machine' from Lithuania be in line for a title shot - namely WBO beltholder, Terence Crawford?

Seeing how he easily he handled Avanesyan I kind of think Kavaliauskas is legit. He's more ready for a title shot than Benavidez is for now at least.

he's like Beterbiev of the WW, will be avoided by the title-holders as long as possible

yeah he'll get the crawford fight. some no hoper with no good wins, fits the criteria.

Judging by a couple of his fights I've seen, he really is legit. I think he's really skilled, punches like a mule and is very patient and composed. On the other hand I think Crawford may be a bas stylistic match up for him, because of his footwork. Plus he has less experience than Crawford. I would love to see that fight, but first I would like the Kavaliauskas to get a couple of more fights against some tougher opponents before going against Crawford.

It's true, he's been boxing the no hopers mostly and even Crawford, who's resume is weak, have been in ring against the better opposition, however I really think Kavaliauskas is very talented.

This would be the best available Top Rank option for October 13.

Kavaliauskas is rated #9 by the RING, #9 by Boxing News, #10 by ESPN, and #10 by BoxRec.

With that said, Bob has not mentioned him as an option for October. I think the assignment will go to either Benavidez or Adames now that Pacquiao-Matthysse is set in stone.

The guy is one of the few legit guys at 147, but he needs a top guy before he faces the elite, but there arent alot of guys out there who would be willing to face him.

You mean beating Abreu will be a decent win. Crawford or Spence, he's dreaming, but if he has the credentials, give him the shot. I want to see it. Horn got a title, O'Campo got a shot, how bad can he be?
