  • Comments Thread For: Gilberto Ramirez Coach Surprised at How Angulo Fought

WBO welterweight champion Gilberto Ramirez (38-0) won a workmanlike unanimous decision over Roamer Angulo (23-1) in Oklahoma City on Saturday night. While not exciting, Ramirez easily won the fight by the scores of 119-109 twice and 120-108. Angulo had 20 knockouts among his 23 victories and Ramirez's trainer Hector Zapari said that they were surprised at the tactics that he employed in the fight.

Ramirez is an example of a so called champion who is benefitting from weak opposition is a weak division. Had this been the days of the 168 tournament that ward won, back when they had several top fighters, ramirez would be an afterthought or journeyman status.

Ramirez is boring as hell and in a boring ass division dont see him becoming a household name unless he fights canelo or chaves jr. Or maybe he needs to move to light heavy?

I did not say up and watch the fight but I saw a replay today Ramirez is very ordinary and and average so call champion... picture him at 160 or at light heavy versus Mike Spinks or any of the good, think of him versus Bob Foster I doubt he will have gone 4 rounds fighters back in the 70s or vs Hagler, Hearns...this guy would not have lasted with his pathetic style and he fights in a organization that has very weak so-called contenders... he needs to stop making excuses and step up or step down and fight someone ...viable....

168 was considered a horrible and dead division before the tournament. if all the guys at 168 fought each other they would look better simply because there would be a winner. as far as skills go that tournament was full of slow euro boxers and american boxers who never really panned out. ward crowned himself the king of the slow boxers then lost to kovalev and retired.

Not sure what redeeming quality Ramirez has.
No killer instinct. Not much power to write home about. A bit of a suspect chin.
            He is what he is.
A bit of a shame since he seems to have the physical attributes that would seem to suggest he is legit.

Too bad Angulo did not fight like someone who wanted to make the most of this opportunity.

After the drama of Saucedo v Lenny Z the main event was a non event.

Oh and yours truly got a chance to watch the card live.
            Wonderful atmosphere.

Too bad Ramirez missed an opportunity to leave a good impression to the many who came to watch EL ZURDO!!

As i said, he is what he is.

This fight exposed Ramirez as nothing but an average fighter against an opponent who should have never had an opportunity 4 a title shot based upon a padded record... think of the great fighters above middleweight who would have KO'D this bum ... I can think of 10 right off the top of my head... he is one of the first fighters in this generation I can think of unworthy to be called champion... average nothing more and the fighters below him that are so called contenders are worse...

this generation of 168 pound fighters pale in comparison to that group and its not even close. Aside from benavidez, everyone else appears to be mediocre, and saying mediocre is being generous. Side note, looks like you have a personal vendetta vs ward.
