Comments Thread For: Johnson's Coach: Beterbiev is the GGG of 175, No Fear of Him

In the coming months, British champion Callum Johnson (17-0, 12 KOs) will get the biggest challenge of his entire career, when he faces IBF light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev (12-0, 12 KOs). Inactivity could be an issue in the contest. Johnson has only fought one round since September of 2016.

I laughed reading Frank Buglions name next to the likes of : Adonis Stevenson, Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev. Speaking of Callum Johnson, I don't even think you can even put him in the same sentence as the other legitimate contender of the light-heavyweight division, no no no...He cant even beat a 'Sir' Marcus Browne, Joe Smith jr. a Badou Jack or a Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

Joe Gallager throwing the name 'GGG' for comparison is really appropriate in this case because Gennady has squandered the prime years of his career beating bum after bum in mandatory defenses.

From Buglioni to Beterbiev is hilarious. Fair play to Callum, he accepted when others declined but he's heading into a badass storm with no proper preparation. I'll be optimistic and say he'll last 8 rounds before the ref steps in. Hope he finishes on his feet and not with an oxygen mask a la David Price.

I fear that its a step too far. Forgetting all of the crap that Gallager speaks (in my opinion there's always a lot of it), I'd love to see Callum do well and more importantly, not get hurt. For all of the important components needed to be a top boxer, one that that Callum does have is punch power so that can't ever be overlooked. History tells us that sometimes that's enough but conversely tells us that sometimes it isn't. I hope for the best for both fighters; but Beterbiev is one tough fighter, that's for sure.

Agree completely, exactly where I rate Callum and couldn't see him beating fringe contenders or even gatekeepers.

I agree with a lot of what you said regarding Johnson but stop unnecessarily trashing GGG. You, and the rest of the GGG haters are always trying to make it seem like GGG didn't want the big fights when he was in his prime. That's twisting the truth. Nobody wanted a piece of him when he was demolishing whoever would get in the ring with him. It's not his fault nobody wanted to take that risk until he got old and went the distance with Jacobs and Canelo, the other two top ranked MWs.

Gallagher is boxing's most overrated trainer, very pedestrian and one dimensional and Johnson is getting obliterated against Beterbiev unless Beterbiev is mentally not focused or hasn't trained properly because of his legal wranglings with his promoter though that's a big if.
