  • Comments Thread For: Beltran's Coach: We're More Confident After Lomachenko-Linares

Pepe Reilly, trainer of WBO lightweight champion Ray Beltran (35-7-1, 21 KOs), feels very confident in his boxer's ability to upset the odds in a unification encounter with WBA champion Vasyl Lomachenko (11-1, 9 KOs).

Linares' hand speed had more to do than grit. That is what caused the knockdown. Beltran would get carved up imo.

Ideal scenario is Pedraza beats Beltran, Loma unifies with Pedraza to show what a hype job Tank Davis is when Loma schools him twice as well, and then Loma and Mikey fight for all the belts early next year. Super ideal for the sport, Loma beats Mikey in a good fight, and becomes a PPV star at 135 holding down that division bringing big fights to 135, while meanwhile Mikey can move up afterwards and bring big fights vs Prograis etc at 140, while Spence and Crawford bring the star power to 147. Then whoever comes out of Mikey and Prograis at 140 (maybe Taylor etc) can try their luck at 147 vs the Crawford-Spence winner. Then maybe for a superduper fight, the winner of that can fight Loma at a catchweight, provided they give Loma license to use Human Growth Hormone for two full years leading up to the fight

Beltran doesn't stand a chance, he just doesn't have enough skill to land anything on Lomachenko.
