The IBF has stripped Gennady Golovkin of his middleweight title for failing to agree to make a mandatory title defense against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. The IBF informed the promoters of Golovkin and Derevyanchenko of its decision Wednesday afternoon. The Springfield, New Jersey-based sanctioning organization had until Wednesday to rule whether Golovkin could move forward with another fight, possibly a lucrative pay-per-view rematch against Canelo Alvarez, without having to first make his mandatory defense versus Derevyanchenko.
