  • Comments Thread For: Josh Warrington: Lee Selby Refused To See Me After The Fight

After becoming Leeds' first ever World Champion, Josh Warrington admits that he is "still on cloud nine". On May 19th, the unbeaten Featherweight dethroned Lee Selby after 12 tantalising rounds at Elland Road, the home of Leeds United. Speaking on the BoxNation Podcast about the victory, Warrington explained that he has hardly slept since Saturday because he is still ecstatic.

Credit to Warrington he did what was needed but he was literally punching him in the back on the head in full view of the ref all night, elbows, coouple lowblows, few heads. Is he surprised at all the guy doesnt wanna see him/ lol. Ref was a disgrace.

You had us all fooled, Josh. I honestly couldn't see how Selby could lose but who knew Josh would outsmart him like he did. Still tip Frampton to beat him but maybe Josh has another trick up his sleeve.

After the fight, friendly exchanges in the ring could be enough.

Do you wanna celebrate your victory in his dressing room too?

Come on guys lets be honest. Selby really isn't that good. I saw a washed up Fernando Montiel give this guy a tough time.

90% of people on this forum thought Selby was gonna jab Josh’s face off all night.,

I was slaughtered for suggesting we wouldn’t know if Warrington was at the same skill level until they fought.

THe ref gave him at least 6 non-warnings for rabbit punches without a hint that he’d deduct a point. One of them nearly dropped Selby too. Ref was probably scared of the crowd but I think the result would have been the same regardless

Yeah most definitely. I think Warrington was much stronger than he expected him to be, the first cut from the accidental head clash (actually selbys fault) was because he just couldnt handle and wasn't expecting such forward momentum. He also didn't adapt, didn't box and looked to be trying to prove a point with those heavy rights he was throwing, like he forgot he was not a puncher. Also while Warrington did what he needed to, Selby did not At ALL. It was almost depressing to see him still look to the ref later in the fight, he should have realised early on to expect nothing. there was a point in maybe 9th or 10th he got a rabbit punch, looked to the ref and took 3 crisp clean jaw shots and wobbled. If Warrington had the same pop in his punches as he has gas in the tank that would have been lights out and was one of a few similar instances in the fight.
