WBA super middleweight champion George Groves found it very tough to watch his good friend David Haye get battered last Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London.

The former cruiserweight and and heavyweight champion went down three times and was finally stopped in the fifth round by Tony Bellew, who was competing in only his second contest at heavyweight.

When you start losing to guys like Bellew it’s time to retire. If Haye fought him at his peak 2007-2011 the fight wouldn’t go beyond a single round, Bellew knows it, fortunately for him the casual U.K. fan does not.

haye grew on me with the bellew fights. he took his licks like a man. bellew's not a bad fighter, and at HW those shots f#cking hurt. no shame in retiring. the guy made a lot of money and was a good fighter at his best, but he can hardly train now. don't need to see him turn into a stepping stone.

The ConMaker is done like cooked food, he's conned the UK cupcake casuals multiple times which is an art in itself even if the beers is cheap and as well the tickets!

We all know a prime Haye would starch Bellew within 2 rounds max, you can see he's lost his legs and speed!

All he has is hayemakers but he's so inactive that his timing is off so he mostly misses them or doesn't have the legs anymore to plant down and land a likely KO bomb!

Haye rocking that giant oaf Valuev will always be a classic!

The English nerd in me caught that too. With some of the beatings ol Georgie has taken, it's wonderful that he can speak at all.

My problem with Haye is simply that, despite being extremely talented at one point, he pretended to be a boxer for the last several years. To the point that he still believed he was one. I truly hope he just lets it go now. Much potential wasted but you can't ever get that back once it's gone. Not in boxing.

Unfortunately I feel aye has been injured in most fights. He shouldn't even talk about them though like the toe incident...

Apparently he trains like a beast according to training partner Malik Scott. This isn't great if your body is already broken down.

The last Bellew fights he did it for the money... we could all see he is flat footed and slower than his prime

Perfect. That is literally the most perfect way to describe David Haye. He was playing the part, seeing what he could get away with. Those two comeback ‘fights’ where utter shams sold to casuals. Bellew was right, if haye was serious about another title run he’d have never took fights against him. Haye came back for the £££ and in doing so got caught up in a messy two fight drama with Bellew that he never intended for. Haye retired, tried to live the life and have that celebrity image etc...didn’t quite work out and so he comes back and aims for an easy pathway.

In a way it was karma for Haye; come back and fight what he saw as ‘gimme’ fights, got caught up in a losing drama.

As much as I dislike what Haye became as a boxer, it does deserve to be recognised how much he tried to clear some of his name. Fighting through that injury in the first fight demands respect even from the greatest haters, and having no excuses for being destroyed the second time, for someone as excuse laden as him, also does.

A couple years ago I really disliked him for the whole sham. But, when the karma finally came around, I didn't get any satisfaction from seeing it. It was just sad. Someone who could have played things out very differently. It all seemed like such a waste.
