Comments Thread For: Wilder Manager Contacts Hearn, Reacts To 'Publicity Stunt' Claim

As BoxingScene.com reported earlier, Anthony Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn are unconvinced that Deontay Wilder's team have the $50 million that they are offering for a title unification. Wilder, who holds the WBC world title, challenged Joshua - holder of the WBA Super, IBF, IBO and WBO titles - to the fight with both boxers guaranteed a 50-50 money split.

So he's saying accept the offer and then we'll reveal where the funds come from?

How difficult is it to just show where the funds are from, have a written guarantee and then have a meeting?

This whole publicly played out process is scripted from both sides.

There needs to be a contract to sign guaranteeing the money. A contract is binding. They would have to pay Joshua $50 million regardless of what the fight makes. Is there an actual contract to sign?

Fighters accept offers, and then sign contracts, in that order, all the time! That offer of $12.5 million didn't come with a contract, dates, venues, etc.! Hearn is looking for a way to push this fight later because he doesn't think AJ is ready!

he's essentially saying "confirm that aj will accept 50 if its real and then we'll sit down and show you that it's real."

otherwise you risk sitting down, revealing all your cards, and then eddie says "we need 60."

this is common sense. if hearn will accept 50 pending certain details and proof of funds, theyll sit down to negotiate those details and show proof of funds.

So they'll provide proof when they meet. But don't want to meet until Joshua agrees to the deal?

So Joshua has to agree to a deal without proof.

thats literally not how it works. contracts are late stage in the deal making process, usually first, both parties actually have to want to make a deal. Then theres usually a deal sheet that lays out the basics, which is what was probably what was sent to Hearn. From there, both parties come together with their attorneys and work up a contract.

Indeed! The fight might not have been a 100 million fight initially but all parties involved are playing their part to have it become a 100 million fight by the time the bell rings.
