  • Comments Thread For: WBC Prez: Mayweather Would Put Boxing at Risk With UFC Run

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman is concerned with the recent statements that were made by Floyd Mayweather, who made it known that he's entertaining the idea of fighting in the UFC. The former five division world champion retired from the sport in 2017, after breaking a two-year retirement to return to the ring against UFC superstar Conor McGregor.

I don't think boxing relies on Mayweather for much anymore. He'd just be embarrassing himself, not boxing.

Honestly, Mayweather is getting old as f*k. Whatever he does shouldn't matter regardless. However there are still the casuals that don't understand age in sports and seeing that if Mayweather did lose in boxing, it equals the weaker of the two combat sports.

Both are different and we've heard it all a million times that if you are a mix martial artist fighting a pure boxer in his game, he's going to lose. The same will obviously hold the other way around as we've seen.

The thing is though because Mayweather is considered the "highest" level of boxing because of his wise business choices and undefeated record, the casuals would imagine that if the "highest" level of boxing was defeated in MMA, it means boxing is the lesser of combat disciplines...

I hope it does, the sport needs to get rid of these dodgy sanctioners. It’d be a far better outcome to have a UFC boxing champion and another franchise and let them cross over. The shows would be better the schedule more predictable. These dinosaurs have to die.

                  This guy says anything lol

He made a special belt for that McGregor fight as a sad attempt to get some money from Floyd. I'm sure Floyd gave them a few dollars too. Didn't he inherit his position from his father? I wonder how much of his "fee by any means necessary" approach was taught to him.
