Comments Thread For: Burt Young Reflects on 'Rocky' Series, Career, 'Paulie' Character

And as soon as he read Sylvester Stallone's script for Rocky, he knew that despite the way Hollywood felt about boxing at the time, he was in...

1985 LA Times article where they talk a bit about it. Interesting read.

Gotta admit Paulie being a boxer with 17-0 is a surprise, never would have pictured it.
Funny how in the 3rd movie Rocky lets Paulie take a few swings to let his frustrations out, had Paulie decided to get serious Rocky would be retiring cuz of Paulie not Clubber Lang. lol

I was also undefeated under a number of different aliases before.

That was the silliest thing I've read today.

He went 17-0, and his manager, Cus D'amato, kept allowing him to change his alias? Why?
Maybe he changed his name 17 times to trick the local commission into allowing him to beat-up the same guy over-and-over.

It explains Paulie's animosity towards Spider Rico!

I met him a few times in a local bar in N.Y back in the late 90's .

It actually took me awhile to figure out why he looked so familiar , he kept quiet at his table and didnt talk much .

The movie "Back To School " starring Rodney Dangerfield where he played his sons body guard came to mind , i guess the scene where he beats up the college students in the bar fight ?

I just couldnt get the vision of him throwing the one big guy football over his head as he sat there even with all the Rocky movies he did portraying a weak minded alcoholic . lol
