Comments Thread For: Parker: I'm Not Blaming the Ref, But We Couldn't Fight Inside

Joseph Parker wasn't trying to blame referee Giussepe Quartarone for his loss to Anthony Joshua. The former WBO champion just thinks Quartarone should've allowed him and Joshua to fight inside when those opportunities arose Saturday night in Cardiff, Wales. Italy's Quartarone drew criticism from Parker's team, television commentators and fans for his extremely hands-on approach to separating Parker and Joshua throughout their 12-round heavyweight title unification fight at Principality Stadium.

I think we all can acknowledge that ref was trash but it's also not likely that the end result would've been any different regardless even if Steve smoger was the ref.

While that ref was garbage, Parker had opportunities to work and did nothing. I remember one instance where he did and AJ didn't like the body shots and tried to respond. Heck I was yelling at the tv for him to work inside

Fair enough. It's true and Parker's team has been magnanimous about it.

It is difficult when a ref sort of ruins a fight because at the end of the day a ref should be a small factor in the fight. This one just made themselves too con****uous. I don't like coating off a guy who has earned peanuts being put under the microscope.

At the least this guy was consistent. No inside fighting apart from the nanoseconds he took to crowbar the two apart.

I personally think the ref probably denied Joshua a KO but I do find it strange that the only people defending the ref are Eddie and Barry Hearn

The ref was poor but he hindered both men

Joshua’s footwork was giving Parker a hard time.. he looked confused and awkward the whole fight

He should have left it all in the ring but chose to fight cagey until the end bell to survive .

I’m sure Parker can come again and I guess that was the plan . Take the money without to much punishment

anybody that gave AJ any of the first two rounds is a blind slurper. Period.

Parker controlled the pace of the fight and was the superior defender throughout. ring generalship and defense.. two of the four criteria used to score fights.

Parker looked like the slickest heavyweight since Chris Byrd in there. AJ looked abysmal and flat. he never got the timing and range down.

all judges gave AJ 10+ rounds which is hands down a more obvious sign of corruption than the Adalaide Byrd fiasco. I better not see any of these AJ slurpers ever again criticize Byrd. they lost that right.

and the referee being a novice is another sign he was paid off. he did everything possible to protect AJ.

Parker vs AJ, three judges, criminal ref, drunk obnoxious Brits and criminal commentary coverage from both Showtime and Sky.

Parker had no chance in hell.

AJ is flat footed and what footwork from AJ? lol...
The guy was running in lines to get away from Parker, AJ relied on the referee separating the fight up when he headlocked and held Parker.
I think Parker exposed a lot of the weaknesses of Joshua, Joshua isn't as good as we all thought he was.
