  • Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker - CompuBox Punch Stats

Although Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker boasted a combined 38 knockouts in their 44-0 record, their four-belt unification bout was a war of nerves fought at long range. Joshua exploited his six-inch reach advantage by out-jabbing the retreating Parker 93-49 despite throwing 46 fewer jabs. The jab comprised 70.5% of Joshua's total output and 66.9% of his total connects while it made up 64.2% of Parker's output and 48.5% of his total connects.

Wow, they had it pretty wide also. AJ throw less but he connected more. Fight came down to the numbers, Parker did a good job making it that type of fight, but looks like AJ can win at that game too.

The judges were still way off then...

The scores were too wide, but Joshua clearly won.

Compubox is rubbish but that does at least tell the story of the fight in that Parker fell short with his jab.

He did well though. Intelligent enough fighter.

Not sure he can ever beat Wilder, AJ, or even his mate Tyson Fury though.

We'll see how much desire Parker has after this though. He will have earned millions tonight. So well done to him and his team.

At 26, man could probably chill in New Zealand now.

That fight only reinforces the notion that Klitchko was an old man by the time AJ got to him and he was nearly knocked out by Wlad. He's going to have his hands full vs Wilder. AJ has no head movement at all and won't like somebody with a longer reach throwing bombs straight down the middle.

Very bad performance by the weightlifter. He obviously won but looked clumsy and again ran out of gas early.

Ludicrous comment! Two things that Joshua did NOT do were:

                (a) look clumsy; and

                (b) run out of gas.

He was in the best condition he has been in for several years. He ended the fight as strongly as he began it and seemed to have enough in the tank to suggest that he could have gone 15 rounds, if necessary.

He was always in control of his own destiny, having taken the first four rounds, quite easily. He also took the last five rounds, to prove to the doubters that there was no "gassing out, at any stage."

This was a mature performance, made to look worse than it was because of the antics of an over-zealous referee, who seemed out of his depth at this level. For that, thank Team Parker, who made such a song-and-dance about the officials, forcing the judging and refereeing panel to be comprised of a "balanced neutrality."

All the top referees come from the United Kingdom, or North America. The Italian guy simply lacked enough experience and, almost certainly, had never worked in the atmosphere created by 80,000 noisy fans.

Had the referee not spent the whole fight keeping the combatants apart, Parker could have come inside more and AJ could have unleashed his uppercuts and more of what he spent the past 12 weeks practicing.

All-in-all, it showed that AJ has more in his arsenal than a knockout mentality. His new conditioning demonstrates that he can go into the championship rounds with plenty of gas in his tank. Good for him - maybe not so good for his future opponents.

You have been saying the same thing for ages even before Parker's fight. Am sure you were disappointed AJ won again.

damn, i guess being outlanded in 1 round out of 12 means you were exposed these days.
