Comments Thread For: Diaz: Gary Russell Has Lots of Flaws; Inactivity Will Be Downfall

Joseph Diaz Jr. can't wait to get his shot at Gary Russell Jr. The undefeated Diaz, the mandatory challenger for Russell's WBC featherweight title, expects to challenge Russell sometime in May or June. First, the 2012 American Olympian will keep busy Thursday night, when he'll meet Mexico's Victor Terrazas in a 10-round fight ESPN2 will televise from Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California (11:30 p.m. ET).

Gary will once again come out of the shadows. Build up the fight by saying he wants a rematch with Lomachenko, while saying he had scale issues and still only lost a close split decision.

He will beat Diaz and then disappear again until 2019.

I like Jo Jo but he needs to focus on tomorrow night and worry about Russell Jr. afterwards.

The thing I worry about most for Jo Jo if he indeed fights Gary Russell is that he has never been truly tested. He has yet to be knocked down or in a real tough competitive fight. He hasn't fought in high pressure situations since the Olympics.

Now Gary hasn't fought in over a year and I think that will be his downfall. Ring Rust is a real thing and Jo Jo Diaz in my opinion would not be a great first fight to come back in my opinion after a year layoff.

The negotiations will be very interesting for the making of this fight.

Jo Jo Diaz will beat Gary Russell with ease I'd put money on it Jo Jo is more active and has great timing and footwork, why do you think Russell has been postponing this fight for 2 years

I honestly don't get Russell Jr. What is he even fighting for? He obviously couldn't care less about boxing since he fights once a year

Even Gary at 50% is so much better than Jo Jo Diaz. This will not end well.

Honestly I forgot all about Gary Russell. DC boxing fell off.
