  • Comments Thread For: Linares: I'd Love Lomachenko at 135, Then Mikey Garcia at 140

BoxingScene.com recently caught up with WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares (43-3) who faces Mercito Gesta (31-1-2) at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. on Saturday night. The fight tops a HBO doubleheader with Lucas Matthysse facing Tewa Kiram in the co-feature bout.

Linares is a solid guy, but it's not up to him. He has to ask Oscar to get him Loma, however Garcia is mandated to fight him, so that's easier!

why is he talking about fighing garcia at 140....this is troubling. garcia might not want to go back down for linares and might force him up which would be meaningless

Well apparently Linares forgot that he can force Garcia back to Lightweight as he is the mandatory and the WBC ruled that they must fight or Garcia gets stripped. I noticed Linares has made some ignorant statements regarding his position lately, maybe GoldenBoy is not doing their jobs informing Jorge but then again he should know these things as champion himself

-- I got a feeling that the temptation of winning another world title at a higher weight ( 140 ) and the payday may lure Linares up weight class and the added excuse of not fighting in his ideal weight is a bonus.

Linares vs. Garcia is pointless if it is at 140. What is the point in that. They can have a big unification Bout at 135 for the WBA, WBC & Ring magazine titles. IT HAS TO BE AT 135!!

OR, maybe Linares feels that making 135 is getting harder as he's getting older. Maybe he feels like he'll be better vs. Garcia @ 140 vice 135?

he like many are worried that Mikey will never fight again at 135. I'm a huge fan of Mikey but he has delayed this fight by TWICE formally requesting the WBC to hold off on mandating this fight and enforcing this fight. WBC has made it clear that Mikey has to fight Linares. But Mikey now 2 fights in a row at 140 can easily vacate the belt ending this nonsense with the WBC Champ and the WBC Diamond champ and Linares goes back to being the 1 and only true champ for the WBC. If that happens Linares has no choice but to go to 140 if he still wants the Mikey fight. I rather the fight happen at 135 so there are no excuses.

hmm...I suspect making 135 maybe harder for Mikey considering his recent departure from 135 ( unofficially ) Loma moving up might be stronger given his amateur experience as a lightweight -- granted its about three pounds short of the pro limit ; Garcia going down to lightweight from 140 may hurt him, remember hes only fought once at the limit? and now fought twice as a jr. welter.

It might be harder for Mikey, but it might be hard for Linares too! Linares hasn't looked "great" lately @ 135!
