Comments Thread For: Hearn: Parker Won't Be Laughing When Joshua Connects

In a recent interview, WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (24-0, 18 KOs) said he would smile if IBF, IBO, WBA champ Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) clipped him hard on the chin. Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua, highly doubts Parker will be smiling if the British superstar connects with one of his bombs.

Joseph Parker & the phrase ‘swarm of punches,’ are pretty much mutually exclusive and I doubt that Joshua will be losing much sleep after Parker’s snore-fest outings against Ruiz and Takam.

He does have fast hands and can throw quick combinations to be fair to him. Problem is that you don't see them unless his opponent is standing still in front of him. He did have a nice flurry against Takam when he stood in front of him around round 7/8. Got the crowd riled up, but didn't seem to make much of a dent in Takam.

Joshua might not be the most skilful boxer out there but his skills are underrated by a lot of people. Plus, it's not like Parker's going to trap Joshua against the ropes with the size advantage that Joshua has. So I don't think Parker's going to get many chances to put punches together, he'd be better off trying to counter Joshua with a big shot and hurt him first.

Fast Eddie knows nothing of Samoans and our ability to handle pain and laugh about it...

He knows all about his giant juicing robot with the glass chin and no sense of humour though.

My advice to AJ would be...

UP THE DOSAGE, YOU GONNA NEED IT!!!

He will be laughing in the 10th round when the punches weaken with AJ breathing hard and he can implement his plan in the last 3 rounds. Something Matchroom wouldn't allow Takam to do.

Parkers going to need to double his PEDs for this one.

Memo to Higgins book double holidays this year for when VADA arrives or will it be a new excuse for skipping his tests this year ?

Are you suggesting that the Joshua vs Takam fight was going to plan for Takam? Say what you want about the stoppage, it was bad, but he was taking a fairly steady beating in there, he didn't look anything like he was ready to spring into life and implement some insane "take a beating from a heavyweight for 10 and a half rounds and then knock him out" plan

                  ...Nah

Hearn and AJ are getting rattled. They rely on mega-hype to scare their opponents, but JP doesn't buy into it at all. AJ will have to rely on what skill he has, don't expect Parker to be overawed by the occasion and don't expect him to think you're better than him
