  • Comments Thread For: Espinoza Open to Discussing Bouts Between Showtime, ESPN Boxers

Stephen Espinoza is intrigued by the idea of having boxers tied to Showtime getting in the ring to face fighters affiliated with ESPN through Top Rank's partnership with that network. Of course, such synergy will be complicated and will require compromise from both sides. But Espinoza's willingness to at least discuss matchups fans want to see most notably Errol Spence Jr. (Showtime) against Terence Crawford (ESPN) should be considered an encouraging sign for boxing fans.

This is great news! HBO better "get down, or lay down!"

Arum would want any fight that involved Loma or Crawford against a PBC/Showtime fighter to be on ESPN. It wouldn't matter if Showtime was gonna pay more, no way Arum will allow a big fight involving his fighter being promoted by another network, especially if he has to co promote. I see no problem allowing some of his weak fighters fighting off ESPN just like he had no problem getting some of the lower tier fighters from PBC to fight Crawford, because he didn't have to ask for options knowing Crawford wouldn't lose.

Sad that head of networks are determining when the best guys fight each other.

Why is this guy acting as if those are really his fighters? Showtime has nothing without Haymon. They're going to loose Joshua to HBO sooner than later. Those fighters he mentioned does not have unfinished business with each other because their all just waiting to fight one man, Thurman. None of them will entertain the thought of fighting each other. Thurman can only fight one at a time and he's not going to fight those guys back to back to back.

Why wouldn't they? They write the checks. You think Errol Spence gets $3M to fight Lamont Peterson without Showtime's backing?

I understand why they would, it just is sad to see it because I grew up in in an era where fighters didn't have network exclusive deals. As such the networks bid more for the better fights and were a conduit to getting the best fights made, not a barrier.
