Comments Thread For: Collazo Healthy After Biceps Surgery, Could Come Back in March

Luis Collazo and his handlers hope a strong start to 2018 will lead the former champion to a welterweight title shot later in the year. That was Collazo's game plan in 2017, before an injury sidetracked him. The veteran southpaw enjoyed a strong start to this year when he scored a spectacular sixth-round knockout of Sammy Vasquez on February 2 in Tunica, Mississippi. That impressive victory marked Collazo's lone appearance of the year because he suffered a torn left biceps muscle in August, which required surgery and extensive rehabilitation.

Collazo is positioning himself to get knocked out by Spence. He needs to get a fight in so the IBF will boost him to their highest ranking, so Spence can fight him for his mandatory defense. I see him trying to cash out and Haymon will give him the opportunity to do so. Fight in early March and fight Spence in late May. Boom.

Between not fighting often and becoming a victim of boxing politics, Collazos potential st having a very good career has been ruined. He deserved the decision vs hatton but there was too much money in Floyd vs hatton for that to happen. He could've gotten the win vs a prime berto but didn't. He broke his hand in the 2nd round vs mosley. Otherwise he's been inactive. His career could've been very different had those things not happened but at this point, he's a stepping stone for any top welter.
