Comments Thread For: Frank Bruno on the road to recovery, now holds trainer's license

Former EBU and WBC heavyweight titlist and British national treasure Frank Bruno (40-5, 38 KOs) battled depression after retiring from the sport in 1996 following a brutal three-round KO loss to Mike Tyson in the maiden defence of the belt he won by out-pointing Oliver McCall in September 1995.

Nice to see that Frank is doing well, he was in a dark place for a long while. I bet he's still in better shape than most people half his age, he was always a physical specimen. Bet he still hits like a truck too.

All fighters after they retire struggle with finding a purpose, filling the missing adrenaline, excitement void. Most turn to drugs or alchohol. So depression normal I’m glad he is getting treatment hopefully the stigma of mental illness goes away

And I am happy when ex fighters become trainers so many trainers just pay the fee are unqualified. Being a exfighter does not a great trainer guarantee but when it clicks great things first hand experience

Physical exercise does help one's mental state. We should all be doing some form exercise every day, even if it's just going for a walk.

I wish him luck as a boxing trainer. He has a lot of experience he can share to help young fighters.

I remember watchin that second tyson fight live that day and I never understood why he acted that much discouraged. especially because he did such a great Job in their first fight. Iwas very disappointed about his Performance but if he had mental issues already this could be a reason

I hope he inspires a kid to get to the top level and keep their feet on the ground, Bruno was always incredibly humble even when earning millions and a national superstar in UK.

Bruno had very solid fundamental boxing skills! Outjabbed Lewis, rocked Tyson with a counter left hook, etc!
