Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia to Keep WBC Lightweight Title Despite Lipinets Fight

Whatever happens against Sergey Lipinets, Mikey Garcia will remain the WBC lightweight champion after they fight February 10.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman announced through his Twitter account Friday morning that Garcia will keep the WBC 135-pound championship because he and Jorge Linares are on course to fight following their upcoming bouts.

Good news. So a Mikey Garcia vs Lomachenko fight in 2018 is still possible.

Well played Mickey Mouse, even if you get beat at lightweight you keep the IBF jr. welterweight title ; if you beat Linares you can claim the Lineal title at 135, politics as usual.

We would get a nice Unification fight at 135. WBA/WBC Champ Mikey Garcia vs. (soon to be )WBO Lightweight Champ Lomachenko. It might happen in late 2018.

so you're telling me Mikey fights 2 straight fight out of the division and does not defend the title but he gets to keep his status as champ, BUT Rigondaux fights just ONE fight out of his weight class, and is stripped? How Sway *Kanye West voice* ...I mean, After the embarrassment performance Rigo had, I'll strip him too lol, but they were going to strip him if he lost, regardless of his performance.

I don't have a problem with this but do the same when it comes to other fighters. the favoritism has to stop.

I see Lomachenko facing either Salido/Berchelt/Gamboa next. In summer against Beltran and then in December 2018 a Unification fight against the winner of Linares/Garcia.

Oh yeah...I forgot about that euro coward Terry Flanagan ducking Linares, running off to jr. welter, does anyone know whos fighting for the vacant WBO 135 title? I thought I read Beltran was up next and I think he is with Toprank so is Loma?
