Gary is short but he wasn't small like Rigo, Russell body has bulk. Do you know the re hydration weights of that fight?

I'll eat my own cake that I was wrong about the size. In another thread, though I think Derranged said it, but I wonder if Rigo was a Small Super Bantamweight seeing how others in his previous bouts were still taller than him. Even Gary Hyde said that Rigo could make 118 when they wanted the Loma catchweight at 124 back in 2015. Hyde said Loma was already making 125 in previous bouts, so why wouldnt Loma concede to 1lb differential to fight Rigo when Loma was a Featherweight in 2015? Dan Rafael literally published the Hyde interview on ESPN. It's on the web.If Rigo was the same size, I don't know if he'd win, but it would be a competitive fight.
GRJ, I've never really been sold on. He looks talented, but I'm not hyped on him like others are. IMO, when he fought Loma, it looks like he just couldn't figure out the style. Whereas, Rigo was getting physically pushed around and had trouble in areas that a smaller guy will always have trouble when out-sized.
But, you were right, and I even made a case to prove your theory right on the ESPN strategy regarding the clinching that was specifically broadcasted when Willis and Loma were explaining the ''grappling.'' It's all suspect even the commentary said ''Loma was concerned...'' while demonstrating the clinch. Cmon... that was all planned. I mean Amir Khan gets to clinch 80 times against Luis Collazo but Willis doesn't intervene knowing the size disadvantage? It's common sense, Willis should've been pro Rigo on the clinch to separate them instead of wearing out the smaller man's energy.
People didn't even notice that Willis held Loma to show him what he would accept, and then still in the same feed Loma demonstrates to Willis and asks if he can pull out with his head on Rigo's face...uhmm...Willis's chest since the ref is taller!
. Willis said absolutely not and laughing to tell Loma no.. has been doing that pull-away clinch in all his fights why would he need to worry about telling Willis? That was all planned by ESPN. Even Atlas not commentating was shady and suspect.
Why would Loma have to demonstrate his pull clinch with head towards Willis when Loma is taller than Rigo? Guess where that head would hit Rigo in most cases!! You see, ESPN and Team Loma had the plan all along to bully Rigo on the clinch, and as most of us know, be it wrestling or BJJ, that shıt wears out any fighter, especially if the guys is significantly bigger in mass.

I think he does better but he would still be fighting at a slower pace, and I think Loma still gets to him and makes him as uncomfortable. Rigo also doesn't have the best chin, which is in my opinion why he fights as cautiously as he does, to protect it.
You also can't discount that in their current frames, Rigo actually has the longer reach, which he wasn't really able to utilise.
I like GRJ he has balls and staying power, he also has awesome speed and good punch power, but I think he's technically over his head against Loma. Again a closer fight, but I don't think Russell has a lot of tricks up his sleeve he has a few, Loma is much more able to adjust on the fly and change things.Comment

Yea, it was an ugly, sad fight so I get no pleasure in telling everyone "I told you so" but when I really started looking at the logistics of this one a month ago, I realized Loma was just too big.
When I saw him consulting w/ the ref about what he could get away with, it confirmed what I suspect about him planning to use the size bully him.
And, when I saw them in the ring, even I was shocked at just how far apart they were in size.
Would being the same size mean Rigo wins? There's no saying that. But, it would have undoubtedly been a more competitive fight. That's all I really wanted. This one wasn't even sporting because one guy looked like a dwarf in front of the other.Comment
