  • Comments Thread For: Rey Vargas Decisions Oscar Negrete, Retains WBC Title

WBC super bantamweight champion Rey Vargas (31-0, 22 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Oscar Negrete (17-1, 7 KOs). The scores were 119-109, 119-109 and 120-108. This was the second defense of the world title for Vargas, who captured the belt in February with a twelve round decision over Gavin McDonnell. He then retained the belt in August with a dominating decision over Ronny Rios.

Vargas has fast hands and throws punches from all angles. Good win for him although I don't like his constantly looking at the ref and seemingly complaining. Be interesting to see what he does next.

Like i said vargas is ordinary and Nacho dont commit full time to joe blows.

He is predictable and unimaginative. His attack sequences are the same and he doesnt know how to set up punches. He just throws punches from a distance hoping his longer reach will land first but he sucks.

Oscar was tough, but Rey isn't hitting real hard. This was supposed to be an easy fight, but he never hurt or even slowed Oscar down with his best punches.

Great performance by WBC 122 Pound Champion , REY VARGAS, completely outclassed his opponent 12 rounds to 0. Way to go Champ!
REY VARGAS is a threat to all the champions in his weight class.

Take some time off to let those bad cuts caused by intentional headbutts heal up.

Referee should be suspended , no warning or points deducted for intentional headbutts all night by Negrete.

Bien hecho Campeon del CMB REY VARGAS!

Vargas knows how to box but he likes to put a good show.

After the cuts, he say "ok, I will box that guy", and the last 3 rounds did a beautiful work, won the last 3 rounds boxing in a great way.

Vargas has a lot of heart, is not easy fight with those kinds of cuts...

And that colombian guy is strong and durable.

Right now I think that Vargas is the best champ.

Problem with Reyes is he has the head movement of a statue and that will catch up to him.

My first time seeing Vargas and I saw nothing impressive. Dude had a freakish size advantage and for the division and was fighting a midget from a lower weight class and he was still catching shots left and right. If the Columbia guy had any power Vargas would likely not made it out of that fight, I couldn't believe the **** riding going on by HBO. Ray might have been winning rounds but he was being buillied around the ring and getting caught with damn near every overhand shot that came his way when he wasn't on his bike..

Dude is currently enjoying serious height/reach advantages, but he gets knocked out when he moves up.

Rigo, kills him in the ring.
                  No defense , too slow.

I think you are favoring him because he is mexican.

Hugo Ruiz and Julio Ceja would murder Vargas.

                    Vargas isnt that good really.
