Comments Thread For: Trainer: Sosa Was Not in Best Possible Shape For Gamboa

Overweight and overconfidence were the factors that worked against former junior world champion Jason "Canito" Sosa, according to the boxer's trainer Raul "Chino" Rivas. Rivas reveals that his boxer was not in the best possible condition to face Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa and paid the price. Last Saturday, Gamboa scored a controversial ten round majority decision with scores of 95-93, 96-92 and 94-94 - despite the fact that he visited the canvas and was penalized a point for excessive holding.

I love watching Sosa and hope to see him again. He is clearly skilled. It's tough to continue, pursue ranks in boxing against for years full time training guys when you have to work at another job. I understand he is a full time boxer now but he already faced huge names.

Well whose ****ing fault is that? Not a legit excuse the boy didnt commit to making sure did all he could in training to win. Sorry, this is the excuse I dislike the most. No sympathy for that kind of thing as his trainer he should have been on Sosa.

A true professional should keep within range of his fighting trim at all times.

If Bernard Hopkins could do it into his 40's and 50's then there is no excuse for these younger guys not to.

                No excuse needed. Sosa won.
Too bad the cards were handed before the fight.
                Gamboa is shot.

Haha As others have observed, it’s nobody’s fault but Sosa’s. Besides, it’s not like a Gamboa was tip-top himself. Yuri took the fight on three weeks notice.

the fight should have been a 12 round fight not 10.
