Comments Thread For: Rigondeaux: WBA Wouldn't Do This to Canelo, Floyd, Joshua, GGG

Guillermo Rigondeaux can't believe how the WBA is treating one of its champions. The WBA 122-pound champion is "very, very disappointed" that he could lose his title December 9, despite that he is moving up two weight classes to challenge WBO 130-pound champion Vasyl Lomachenko.

These sanctioning bodies make so many accommodations that make no sense. Now Rigo is being penalized for taking a big step up in weight class against Loma. Sure they can say that him moving creates uncertainty for the title at that weight, but these people will literally create new titles named after minerals and colors just to get sanctioning fees or hold a belt for a big name. Money talks.

As far as I am concerned, Rigo beating Loma may speak more volumes than holding that WBA title.

Spot on, why are they doing this to Rigo?! It should be up to the champion to decide if he will campaign at that weight in the future.

Hes moving up 2 weight classes to fight for another organizations title. What can he expect? He wins hes not coming back to 122, to much $ at 130 to go back down.

I'm glad. This just serves as motivation for rigo. Should he pull off the win, the wba will be sucking him off to fight for their belt.

But he only gets stripped if he loses.

Which is what's fucked up about it.

As, should he lose, he'd likely want to move back down to defend his title. Now he can't. Instead, he has to get back in line, presumably.

It's essentially robbing him, because a world title reign is a very valuable thing.

The problem is that if he loses and wants to move back down to defend his title, they won't let him.

The WBA's decision here makes no sense because if they're giving him 5 days in the event that he wins, he should also be given 5 days in the event that he loses.
