Comments Thread For: HBO's Peter Nelson: We Have All-Action Fights on This Network

A few days ago, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum trashed the current lineup of boxing content being presented on HBO - and he especially took aim at the head of HBO Sports, Peter Nelson. Arum's fire has been triggered by HBO's decision to counter-program his upcoming event on December 9th in New York City - which features an ESPN televised dream fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

HBO should only air top matchups and should force promoters to work together if they want airtime and tv money.

Reading Nelson's comments makes me feel like he's positioning himself to get into the haymon business. None of them have promotors. So they can work with promotors to make fights. Just a observation from these quotes.

I think it's a smart idea to focus on action fights. For them at least, because their boxing is struggling. I still don't blame them for getting out of the Rigo business.
The counter-programming thing is poison for the sport though.

Doesn't have to be compared to anyone to see that they have seen better days in terms of boxing. Is this even a serious debate? HBO boxing is kinda ***ed right now. I hope they come back to glory.

the market for boxing in general has shrunk in america

and hbo viewing figures are comparatively even better than before i would guess
