  • Comments Thread For: Canelo Will Make Decision on Golovkin Rematch in a Few Weeks

The negotiations to finalize the rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will continue to progress and there are less details to agree on for confirmation of the fight, which would take place in May 2018 during Cinco De Mayo weekend. Eric Gomez, president of Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Canelo, said his company will continue talking and signing this rematch fight is the main objective of both parties. He said that in the coming weeks they would present a possible preliminary agreement to continue the process of confirming the fight.

Why is it so hard for canelo to accept the rematch - he clearly thought he won the first fight......

Hahahah, I think we all know he knows GGG won and he wants GGG to get older and older and older

There is the idea that Golden Boy may wait until the aftermath of next month's bout between David Lemieux and Billy Joe Saunders, who battle for the WBO middleweight title. If Lemieux - also promoted by Golden Boy - wins the WBO belt, then he can be used as a bargaining chip to gain more favorable terms from Golovkin's side.

It surprises me how many people brush off Saunders as a threat for Lemieux. We have to at least acknowledge an A game from BJS come fight night. You never know, the very best might come out of him, and BJS is no Curtis Stevens. BJS is also fairly hefty dude at 160.

If BJS defends his strap, this won't be good for GBP. I see Warren and BJS going after Golovkin for a 3rd times a charm possible win in their eyes if they feel Jacobs and Nelo truly exposed Lil'G.

Even funnier, what if BJS beats Golovkin in the UK and gets all the straps. He will be a ***** ATG traveller that not even Fury can touch

That's not how it works. Loeffler and Abel would acknowledge the Sept. Mexican holiday.

This is what Lil'G fans fumble in their own urine when it was K2 promoting Mexicanism....as if that narrative doesn't help the mexican dates theme.

GBP, particularly BHOP, are placing their chips that Lemieux will beat Saunders. Then in May we can get Lemieux vs Alvarez.

            Assume Alvarez win the WBO..

Then in September expect another marketing hype ''will GGG beat Bhops record?!''

September is a special undisputed unification bout if all strategies play the part, and the fight will make more revenues than the first.

Now Lil'g fans must ask themselves, can Golovkin hold on until September?

What will be the next gossip by Suleiman, the WBC, and Charlo's mando until Sept.?

Again, if everything is fine for Sept. outside of Haymon goal setting, the least Charlo will get is a nice step aside fee in the amount of Cotto style money

Did you not read the article??
Canelo and Golden Boy promotions are waiting on the Lemiux-BJS fight outcome. If Lemiux wins then they can tell Triple g to accept the terms that are being offered to him or they'll give the pay day to Lemiux and he'll fight Canelo on May 5th.
Boxing is also a business and Canelo and Golden Boy promotions are making a business move here. Nothing wrong with that.
