  • Comments Thread For: Lipinets' Reign as a 140-Pound Champion Might Not Last Long

By Keith Idec - NEW YORK Sergey Lipinets likely will win the vacant IBF junior welterweight championship in convincing, entertaining fashion Saturday night. Lipinets' championship reign might not last as long as you might expect, though. The punishing puncher from Kazakhstan has the power, hand speed and overall boxing ability to become a unified champion in the suddenly wide-open 140-pound division...

Credit, not for being dominant in a weak division, but for realizing it's going to take more effort. It's not a beauty contest, he's chasing names not titles. Big game hunter.

crawford would have easily beaten this guy

knockouts cause amnesia, this guy is massively overrated, output is low, he cant handle movers, but he has very good power, but not insane stamina.

lets be honest, people jus go to boxrec or watch highlights, they dont have a clue what theyre on about lol

I'm not inclined to believe Crawford or Indongo willingly ducked this guy, as in the last couple years, especially Crawford would have been looking for the big fights; Lipinets just wouldn't have presented a draw, as he is hardly known.
Unless ordered as a mandatory I don't blame Crawford for looking to greener pastures. Indongo, well, he probably had dreams of becoming undisputed champion, and whilst not a big draw himself, he did hold at least two major belts, so of course, he would have been focused on Crawford.
Kondo's record had me first reacting with disbelief at having 6 losses on his record, being ranked #3, but the guy did fight fellow up-and-comers in the whole early part of his career and it's true nearly all his losses have been by SD. He has only stepped up his competition of late, so he gets credit for not taking the usual route of padding his record with old journeymen with losing ledgers.

I use boxrec ( which the IBO uses as a source for ranking fighters ), *********, and the TBRB to check on records, ratings and lots of stuff. I'm also a former amateur boxer, keen fight fan and sometimes enjoy highlights, sometimes a whole fight; that doesn't necessarily make someone a fool when it comes to offering an opinion.
Even so, how can you be so sure of the viewing habits of fans? Is it because they disagree with you that then defaults them to ignoramus'?

Too little reward and took much risk.

This guy wouldn't lay a glove on Crawford.

Crawford doesn't give two shits about Lipschits or whoever. Nobody does.

Well if no one knows or cares about Lipinets which is fairly true, then he would be wise to move up and fight bigger name fighters. A couple defenses would look good and may make securing a decent fight at 147 easier, but no one at 140 is really going to move the needle for him right now.

So yea that would probably be wise especially since he is 28, so he has some time but he needs to get a move on with his career and 147 would be a much quicker route.
