Comments Thread For: Joseph Parker December Fight Off, Return Pushed To 2018

It appears that WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (24-0, 18 KOs) is not going to fight again in 2017. Parker was slated to make a title defense on a date in December, but his promoter David Higgins told Newshub that it is 'highly unlikely' that Parker will defend his title again in 2017.

You should be happy, Anthony Joshua will now surely have a unification ; you see why go over to Japan and as Parkers trainer Higgins explains 'risk-reward' losing his title when he can cash-in his WBO vs. Joshua ; the only thing missing is the WBA's ruling you see; which should be made clear in the coming weeks and team Parker cant afford missing out if it opens the door for negotiations with Joshua: if Joey gets injured around this time he could be out of a unification or even worse get KO since as you stated he 'looks bad against average opponents'.

...these HW's are scumbags, this is the same Joey Parker that said that VADA missed him when they came to test him because he went to Samoa for a vacation?

Hearn wants joshua to fight 3 times next year.... when he beats Takam he should negotiate to fight Parker Feb/March to unify.

Although I respect Parker's old school activity, he obviously has not performed up to standard since winning the WBO belt, and I suspect the offers coming in were low ball.

Parker will need to take bigger risks if he's going to increase his press and fan capital( like pursuing a unification bout) because at the moment he's (unfairly I think given his age) copping a lot of criticism about his ability.

You can't be a Heavyweight 'boxer' unless you're the calibre of Ali, fans expect HW's to at least get into slugfests or produce a KO every couple of fights, and unfortunately for whatever reason Parker hasn't been able to produce the entertaining style required to garner interest from the powers that be.

He still has plenty of time to develop at 24, so it might be a case similar to Wladimir Klitschko, who had to change and adjust his style (albeit for different reasons, though he was often criticised as boring).

Lol if Joshua takes Parkers belt the fight with Wilder will be even bigger for all 4 belts.

Heavyweight boxing needs an undisputed Champ.

I thought Wilder didn't have any fans at all?

Seems like Parker would be AJ's finale after beating Wilder.

Heavyweight boxing needs a lineal champion -- the WBO and Joey Parker are meaningless, you know like the IBO Johsua caries around.
